Outdoor activities are becoming increasingly popular, and many people now prefer to spend their day outside. Most cities have specially designed areas where people can meet and enjoy outdoor activities. These are known as recreational areas.

At Decópolis, we install recreational areas such as children’s playgrounds, outdoor fitness zones, calisthenics parks and parkour areas in Mallorca and Ibiza. We create each project from scratch in the Balearic Islands and manage it from start to finish, ensuring a sustainable approach that respects the surrounding environment.

What do we mean by recreational areas?

A recreational area is an easily accessible public space designed to provide basic facilities for the recreational use of natural environments. As a general rule, these spaces are equipped with tables, wooden benches, drinking fountains or children’s playgrounds. However, they can also include parkour or calisthenics circuits.

The main purpose of a recreational area is to allow users to spend short periods of time there while enjoying outdoor activities. These areas are usually located in natural settings, making them ideal for enjoying nature and leisure time with family or friends.

Thanks to our experience in the sector, at Decópolis we install all types of urban furniture in recreational areas, from drinking fountains and wooden benches to bins, signage and picnic tables in Mallorca and Ibiza. Our projects are environmentally sustainable, and you can view all our previous projects on our website, such as the biosaludable route signage project we carried out in the Marratxí area of Mallorca.

What activities take place in a recreational area?

Recreational areas are sustainable outdoor spaces that can include a wide range of urban elements and services, such as drinking fountains, toilets, waste collection points, tables, benches, signage, pathways, parking areas, fitness circuits and children’s playgrounds. These spaces are designed for a variety of recreational and leisure activities throughout the day.

In Mallorca, for example, there are specific recreational areas where people can to toast, a local tradition of cooking food outdoors over a fire, and spend time with family and friends. These areas are located across different parts of the island and are ideal for spending the day outdoors and enjoying nature. One of the most distinctive features of these Mallorcan spaces is the presence of outdoor fireplaces or barbecue areas.

There are more than 40 recreational areas on the island of Mallorca where visitors can spend a certain amount of time, without camping, and enjoy outdoor activities and excursions. These include public estates such as Son Fortuny, Son Trias, Caubet and Comuna de Bunyola. Recreational areas can also be found across all the islands that make up the Balearic archipelago. In Menorca, examples include Es Pinaret and Cala Canutells; in Ibiza, S’Argentera and Can Cosmi; and in Formentera, Can Marroig.

As these areas are in natural surroundings, any external elements introduced into them must respect the environment. By creating sustainable recreational areas, it is possible to prevent excessive pollution from vehicles, which are parked in designated areas, while also contributing to the development and protection of the natural environment. At Decópolis, we are committed to sustainability, which is why all our projects are designed to stand the test of time.
